Atzeni and Look Closely scupper Scoop6 chasers

Victory at Ascot for Roger Varian’s Look Closely ensured that there were no winners of the Tote Scoop6 for the sixth consecutive week, as the £134,449.10 pool went unclaimed.

There were 19 units remaining in the hunt as the runners were sent off for the 4:10 at Ascot, with all but four horses covered by the Scoop6 players. Scoop6 SuperClub had last year's winner Western Duke off a lower weight for a single ticket win and we also had the favoruite and eventual third favourite for a share of the pool.

One of those without a ticket on was the ultimate winner Look Closely, who in truth never looked in much trouble during the 1m4f handicap at the Berkshire track, scoring comfortably under Andrea Atzeni.

Triumphs for the well-fancied Tsar, Blue Mist and Hartswood earlier in the afternoon had given hope of a Scoop6 winner, but it was not to be.

No winners of the pool ensures there will be a bumper pot on offer on the Saturday of the Qatar Goodwood Festival in seven days time.

Tote spokesman Ben Stones said: “On a day we witnessed a magical performance from Enable, it looked as if the already swollen prize pool would finally be won.

“However, as much as today’s players will curse their luck, our lack of a winner today means we have an even bigger rollover to look forward to at Goodwood next weekend.”
