Betfred punter among five going for Scoop6 bonus
Five winners of last weekend’s totescoop6 will bid for further glory in tomorrow’s bonus race - the 17 runner Coral Challenge Handicap over a mile.
Among the lucky quintet playing for a share of the whopping £479,465 bonus fund will be James De La Mare, 44, who placed his winning Scoop6 wager at betfred.com.
The father of two from Guernsey staked just £16 but walked away with £24,970 after Higher Power scored in the sixth and final leg of the Scoop6 at Newcastle last Saturday.
If James is the only ticketholder to crack tomorrow’s bonus race – the Coral Challenge (2:25 Sandown) – he will take his total winnings to a jaw-dropping £504,435.
“To take my winnings to over £500,000 will be unbelievable and I will be mortgage-free,” said Liverpool fan James, who studies form for around an hour every day.
“The Scoop6 is my favourite bet but I have only ever had three or four winners, certainly not all six! I have been betting online with Betfred for five years or so on the Scoop6 and football. I watched the Lions win at a restaurant early on Saturday and then took my children to the park. Later I met up with some friends so didn’t know I had won until two hours after the last race, the 3:30 at Newcastle where I was on Higher Power.
“I checked my phone and realised straight away I had won nearly £25,000. I jumped up and told everyone with me as they were wondering what was going on. I then spent some time explaining all about the bonus fund and that I had a chance now of winning it. If I do I will be mortgage-free which will be great!
“If I defy the odds again and win another £479,465 on Saturday, as well as paying off the mortgage, we’ll be off on holiday, maybe to Euro Disney.”
Totepool spokesman Andrew Griffiths said: “It’s going to be a nerve-wracking day for all five bonus hunters as they are just one race away from a near £500,000 windfall. We wish them all good luck, but as a small-staking player we’ll be cheering on James’s selection extra loudly.”
The totescoop6 win fund will also be up for grabs on Saturday. A starting fund of £16,041 kicks things off and punters will need to solve six races from Haydock and Sandown. The closing five legs will all be shown live on ITV.
Saturday’s totejackpot is made up of the opening six contests at Sandown, while the bet365 Old Newton Cup Handicap (3:15 Haydock) will be the totetrifecta rollover race.
