Lucky mum lands nearly £575,000 for a quid after joining her husband and son for a £1 football flutter

A HOUSEWIFE with Lady Luck on her side landed £574,278.41 for a £1 bet on the football after suffering for years with her husband and son watching TV matches every weekend.

The 59-year-old burnt the bookies with her astonishing 12-team accumulator and only started doing her £1 weekend bets about six years ago, because she reckoned if she couldn’t beat the boys to the TV she might as well join them.

And the woman’s 574,277-1 girl power winner at bookmaker’s William Hill was landed after her 30-year-old son read out the games and she picked the names of 12 teams that she thought sounded nice.

Incredibly, 11 of the teams were odds against outsiders – including Burnley at 4-1 away at Southampton - and only one of the matches Sheffield United to beat Hull was odds on at 8-11.

And the housewife’s likely favourite scorer was Cherries defender Steve Cook who headed in Bournemouth’s winner in the 90^th minute.

Her 58-year-old taxi driver husband and their son are both Tottenham fans, but the housewife swerved Spurs in her weekend betting bonanza.

The lady clearly likes teams beginning with B as Burnley, Brighton, Barnsley and Bolton all did the business for her along with Bournemouth.

William Hill shop manager Carli Faulkner, 38, who has paid out hundreds of thousands of bets in her 18 years in bookmaking, but none with as big a win as this.

Blonde Carli speaking at the Leysdown-On-Sea branch of William Hill on the Isle of Sheppey, Kent, said: ‘This is the biggest winning bet I have ever handled and all for just a quid.

‘It is incredible that the lady got them all up. Usually customers laugh when they see a payout figure on the bottom of their slip like £574,000, but this just goes to show it can happen.

‘They will be having a cracking Christmas and I am delighted for them as it’s real girl power landing a bet like that. My biggest ever payout before this was around £25,000.’

William Hill spokesman Rupert Adams said: ‘Apparently, the lady’s husband had been doing the £1 weekend acca since he was 18, so 40 years of practice on football punting.

‘His wife started doing the same bet about six years ago, so she certainly had lady luck on her side as her hubby has never had a win anything like that.

‘It just goes to show if you can’t beat them join them and the payout in this case is absolutely fantastic. We wish them well.

‘In my 15 years in the business working for William Hill I have never encountered a bigger football win by a female punter for just a quid.’
