Star Sprints to Success to Scupper Scoop6 Hopes

Terentum Star’s victory in the Sprint Handicap at York this afternoon ensured the Scoop6 rolled over to next Saturday.

Kevin Ryan’s charge sprinted to victory to knock out the final three tickets in the fifth leg to set up an estimated £600,000 total pool next weekend.

The day started well for punters when Kew Gardens won the first leg with 31,505 hopes pinned on the favourite. The 10/1 success of Dark Red at York whittled these down to 1,659 before Gaaiyyath scored at Newmarket to take 446 tickets through to the halfway stage.

Rebel Assault’s 25/1 victory in leg four on the Knavesmire did the most damage with just three tickets in play with two races remaining before Terentum Star ended all chances of a winner.

Totepool spokesman Matt Hulmes said “Rebel Assault did plenty of damage in the Scoop6 this afternoon and with the well backed favourite taking the final leg, that result was the difference between the Scoop6 being won and rolling over. The silver lining for punters is an estimated £600,000 Scoop6 on Champions Day.”

There were 34 winning tickets of the place fund, each worth £625.60
