Late charge from Nahaarr scuppers Scoop6 chances as the pool rolls to Newmarket next week

A BUMPER £214,763 was up for grabs in the win pool this week as three races from Ayr and three from Newbury proved to be a difficult challenge for Scoop6 punters. The Placepot at Newbury, however, was the highlight of the day as a £1 stake would have returned £25,404 if you managed to pick a horse to place in each of the first six races.

In the Scoop6, Martin Dwyer gave Ilaraab a perfectly timed run to land the Dubai Duty Free Handicap and hold off Maydanny and 10,122 units progressed to leg 2.

Just 23 units managed to pick out Magical Spirit in the Ayr Silver Cup as Kevin Stott continued his fine form.

Umm Kulthum rallied late on in the Firth Of Clyde Fillies' Stakes to take 12 units into the fourth leg.

Jim Crowley won the Mill Reef Stakes for the first time in 12 years on Alkumait and only two units remained with two races to go.

The final two units were on Soldier’s Minute and Stone Of Destiny, however, it was the favourite, Nahaarr who capped off a wonderful day for Sheikh Ahmed Al Maktoum by winning the Ayr Gold Cup.

Tote spokesperson, Angus Robinson, said: “It was always going to be a tough Scoop6 this week with lots of runners across the board. Had someone found all six winners, it would have been no surprise if they scooped the lot. However, the pool rolls to next week where there will be some fascinating action in the Royal Lodge, Cheveley Park and Middle Park.”
